What is the difference between a carpenter and a woodworker?

While both professions work with wood and wood, carpentry involves the use of more hand tools and the ability to move.

I think I'd rather be called a friend than be a famous carpenter, cabinetmaker, furniture maker or workshop teacher, and in a perfect world, I wouldn't give a damn about each one; -).

A quick and easy division would be that the carpenter normally works with hardwoods, while a carpenter usually works with softwoods. For me (and for the trade), a carpenter is someone who has worked as an apprentice, attended school and has obtained tests in all areas of carpentry work. If they're more likely to give you their business if you have Oldgrowth45, Woodworker on your business card and in your ads, than Oldgrowth, Carpenter, then those are the right words.

Carpenters rarely think about adjusting their tools to thousandth tolerances or having the rules reduced to 64. So, does carpentry refer to all other facets of working with wood (such as cabinetmakers, cabinetmakers, carvers, turners, etc.) except carpentry (which I suppose now consists of manufacturing rough materials, such as trusses)? The carpenter frames a house in one day, while the carpenter spends the day discussing the advantages of placing a secondary bezel on his tool. Carpenters are talented tradesmen who work with wood to build, install and repair larger wooden components and structures. Many people don't know the difference between carpenters and cabinetmakers, but everyone works very differently in the wider fields of architecture, construction, and carpentry. Many people use the terms “carpenter”, “cabinetmaker” and “carpenter” interchangeably, without even realizing that there are several fundamental differences between these highly skilled trades.

Often, a carpenter is responsible for installing and assembling a wooden structure or custom-made piece of furniture that has been manufactured off-site by a carpenter expert. Of course, there is a pecking order and, of course, the gentleman cabinetmaker is at the top and some would say that the carpenter who closes the blinds is at the bottom, although the gut turner, in my opinion, is more suitable for that position, since he is a voracious consumer of the best woods at the expense of the cabinetmaker who really deserves it. From the perspective of an outsider, a carpenter and a carpenter seem to be the same occupation; however, they are not. I would say that the difference between a carpenter and a carpenter is that the carpenter could do what a carpenter does, while a carpenter could not do what a carpenter does.
